Glass is a hard, transparent substance that is used in making door and window panes, skylights, mirrors, and various home décor items. All these glass items need occasional polishing to restore their actual shine when these objects become dull and fade after a few years of use. Therefore, suitable polishing agents should be bought from the market, to meet the requirements whenever needed.

Popular glass polishing additives commonly applied in houses

Cerium oxide is the foremost chemical preferred among all glass polishing additives, which is an orange-yellow powder. It is widely available in all hardware stores, contained in small pouch packets. This powder is turned into a thin paste, by adding a little amount of water. Then this liquid is evenly spread over the glass surface, with a Hog’s Hair pad or a small polishing wheel.

Silicon dioxide, Cerium hydroxide, Zirconium oxide, and Zirconium hydroxide are other effective chemicals that can be used for polishing all kind of glass objects. However, Zirconium is a rare element and thus, its salts are not available so easily.

Now, molten wax, dilute acetic acid or white vinegar, acrylic, urethane, and some polymers are used for polishing glass surfaces. Few metal polishes can also be used as alternative choices as glass polishing agents. White toothpaste is a common household material that can be used for polishing some glass objects.

Beneficial features of all glass polishing materials

All the polishing agents have the capability of eliminating all scratch marks and tough stains from the glass surfaces. These powerful chemicals are successful in restoring the original grandeur of all glass items, by making these surfaces absolutely clean and shinier. These glass polishing materials have a long-lasting effect on polished glass surfaces, for which owners do not need to polish again in the near future. None of these materials leave any sediment after the glass surface is wiped off with a clean cloth.

Hence, the polishing of glass items is considered to be a simple and cost-effective task for house owners, which improves the looks of their homes.
